Eastern Uganda Region Chess Championship (GP Event)

The Eastern Uganda Region Chess Championship 2026 marks the inaugural edition of what is set to become the region’s premier annual FIDE-rated classical chess event. Organized by the Eastern Uganda Region Chess Association (EURCA) in collaboration with the Uganda Chess Federation, the tournament will take place from 24th to 26th July 2026 at the iconic Source of the Nile Hotel in Jinja.

This three-day classical chess championship will feature 6 rounds under the Swiss system and is open to players across three categories: Open Section, Ladies Section, and Juniors Section (Under 18). With an expected participation of over 200 players from more than 15 schools and 10 districts, the event promises high-level competition and significant regional impact.

The championship carries a total prize fund of UGX 12 million, including cash prizes, medals, bicycles, and tablets for top performers. As a FIDE-rated classical tournament, it offers players the opportunity to gain official FIDE ratings and experience competitive play under international standards.

Held at one of Uganda’s most scenic venues, participants and guests will enjoy world-class chess alongside the natural beauty and adventure offerings of Jinja. The event also presents a unique opportunity for sponsors and partners to support youth development, education, and the growth of chess in Eastern Uganda as Founding Partners of this landmark initiative.
