Nakiirya Victoria
is a trailblazing figure in Ugandan chess, renowned for her commitment to advancing women’s participation, ensuring tournament integrity, and supporting grassroots development. She serves as Secretary for Women Affairs on the National Executive Committee of the Uganda Chess Federation (elected December 2025, 2025–2029 term) and holds a key position in the Uganda Women Chess Association.


Chess Journey and Arbiter Excellence

Nakiirya Victoria is a highly respected International Arbiter (IA), a title she earned in 2025/2026. She previously obtained her FIDE Arbiter (FA) title in 2024. Her arbitration career highlights include:

  • Serving as Deputy Chief Arbiter at the 17th Africa Youth Chess Championship in Entebbe, Uganda (May 2026).
  • Making history as the first female Chief Arbiter of the Uganda Chess Open.
  • Acting as Match Arbiter at the FIDE World Cadet Chess Championship 2025 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, among other notable international events.

Her calm demeanor, thorough knowledge of FIDE rules, and dedication to fair play have earned her recognition across the continent.

As a player, she is a FIDE-rated competitor (FIDE ID: 10009035) with a Classical rating of approximately 1598. While she now focuses primarily on officiating and administration, she remains an active supporter of national chess events.


Leadership and Advocacy

In her role as Secretary for Women Affairs, Nakiirya is dedicated to:

  • Boosting female participation in chess across all levels
  • Promoting and organizing women’s tournaments and training camps
  • Advocating for gender equity in Ugandan chess and sports
  • Collaborating with the Uganda Women Chess Association to empower girls and women through the game

She also serves as one of the federation’s Rating Officers, ensuring accurate management of player ratings and tournament records.

Professional Background


Nakiirya Victoria holds a degree in Development Studies from Uganda Christian University, Mukono. Professionally, she works as Sales Manager at Kushan Elevators Ltd, where she applies her skills in client relations, project management, and business development in the elevator and mobility solutions sector.


Her background in development studies and counseling (previously with organizations supporting community and refugee initiatives) complements her chess contributions, particularly in mentoring young players and promoting chess as a tool for personal empowerment and social development.

Nakiirya Victoria is a passionate advocate for using chess to build confidence, discipline, and strategic thinking, especially among girls and women. Her groundbreaking achievements as an arbiter and administrator continue to inspire a new generation while strengthening the structure and inclusivity of chess in Uganda.
