Mukisa Glory Bbumba
is a passionate chess educator, administrator, and advocate for the integration of chess into Uganda’s education system. She currently serves as Assistant Chairperson for Chess in Education on the Secretariat Committee of the Uganda Chess Federation.


Chess Journey and Leadership


Mukisa Glory Bbumba is a FIDE-rated player (FIDE ID: 10006125). She rose to prominence as Chess Captain of Makerere University, where she led the team to strong performances in national and regional university competitions, including the 2022 FEAUS Games and FISU World University events.


She has represented Uganda in several competitions, including university championships and national leagues, and has competed against top female players.


Chess in Education and Development Work


Mukisa is the Chief Executive Officer of Great Thinkers Chess Academy, a leading institution focused on using chess to develop critical thinking, creativity, discipline, and academic excellence among young learners. Through the academy, she organizes chess programs in schools, mentors young players, and coordinates competitions that bridge grassroots participation with competitive chess.


As Assistant Chairperson for Chess in Education at the UCF, her key responsibilities include:

  • Expanding chess programs in schools and educational institutions nationwide
  • Strengthening partnerships between the federation and schools
  • Promoting teacher and coach training in chess education
  • Developing sustainable strategies to integrate chess as a valuable educational resource
  • Mentoring young players and supporting talent identification at the school level

She has also served as an Arbiter in major events, including the 17th Africa Youth Chess Championship in Entebbe (2026) and the 2026 National Juniors Chess Championship (Girls Section).


Vision and Impact


Mukisa Glory Bbumba firmly believes that chess is a powerful tool for holistic child development. She is dedicated to positioning chess as a catalyst for academic improvement, character building, and opportunity creation for Ugandan youth. Her work emphasizes inclusivity, particularly encouraging more girls to embrace the game.
