Nalunga Sandra Esther is a passionate chess player, coach, and administrator dedicated to growing the game in Uganda, with a strong focus on empowering women, girls, and young players. She is a FIDE-rated player (FIDE ID: 10007644) with current ratings of approximately Classical 1517, Rapid 1570, and Blitz 1546.

Sandra was introduced to chess in 2014 while studying at Mengo Senior School. She actively sought training from fellow students and has remained deeply involved in the game ever since. Her notable achievements include:

She has also collaborated with foundations such as Next Generation Foundation and currently serves as a coach with TiG Network Africa Foundation.

In  her role as Mobilizer for the Women Chess Association Uganda (WCAU), she works tirelessly to increase female participation and create opportunities for women and girls in chess.

She is the Founder of Decoy Sports Academy, which now operates as Decoy Chess Club. The club focuses on talent development, training children from a young age, and supporting the transition from amateurs to competitive players.

Sandra holds a Degree in Quantity Surveying from Makerere University. She has worked with companies such as Nitfix Contractors and CK Associates.

She is also a talented Costume Designer and entrepreneur. As a member of the Costume Designers Guild Uganda, she founded Lisandrez Fashions.com, a fashion brand operating in Kampala. Additionally, she holds certificates in Hydroponics Technology from Sensei Institute of Nakuru, Kenya, and Hydroponics Farms Uganda.

Sandra’s dream is to see chess recognized as a top-tier sport in Uganda and to help spread the game to every corner of the country. Her multi-faceted approach — combining playing strength, coaching, administration, and community outreach — continues to inspire many, especially young girls and women, to embrace chess.
